Use of Navicular Bursography in 97 Horses
نویسنده
چکیده
The injection of contrast material into the navicular bursa, accompanied by a subsequent radiographic examination, provides new and relevant information about pathologic damage to the navicular flexor fibrocartilage and the deep digital flexor tendon. It is the only diagnostic method currently being used that can determine whether adhesions have occurred between the navicular bone and deep flexor tendon. Evaluation of Palmar Digital Nerve Block and Distal Interphalangeal Joint Analgesia in Lame Horses Associated with Hoof Pain due to Sidebone Fracture
Objective- To determine if the pain of the third phalanx due to sidebone fracture in horses can be attenuated by analgesia of the distal interphlangeal joint and palmar digital nerve block. Design- Clinical study. Animals- Seven horses with unilateral forelimb lameness associated with hoof pain due to sidebone fracture. Procedures- Seven mix breed show jumping horses were selected from hor...
متن کاملThe force and contact stress on the navicular bone during trot locomotion in sound horses and horses with navicular disease.
Mechanical overload due to poor conformation or shoeing has been suggested to contribute to the development of navicular disease. While studies have determined the compressive force exerted on the navicular bone in normal horses, this has not been reported for horses with navicular disease. Also, the force has not been converted to stress by correction for contact area. In this study we develop...
متن کاملMorphometric study of the equine navicular bone: variations with breeds and types of horse and influence of exercise.
Navicular bones from the 4 limbs of 95 horses, classified in 9 categories, were studied. The anatomical bases were established for the morphometry of the navicular bone and its variations according to the category of horse, after corrections were made for front or rear limb, sex, weight, size and age. In ponies, navicular bone measurements were smallest for light ponies and regularly increased ...
متن کاملEffect of contact stress in bones of the distal interphalangeal joint on microscopic changes in articular cartilage and ligaments.
OBJECTIVE To examine articular cartilage of the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint and distal sesamoidean impar ligament (DSIL) as well as the deep digital flexor tendon (DDFT) for adaptive responses to contact stress. SAMPLE POPULATION Specimens from 21 horses. PROCEDURE Pressure-sensitive film was inserted between articular surfaces of the DIP joint. The digit was subjected to a load. Fin...
متن کاملUse of magnetic resonance imaging to assess soft tissue damage in the foot following penetrating injury in 3 horses
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses the magnetic properties of tissues to create a high resolution image, taken in any anatomical plane. The use of MRI in equine diagnostics is still in its infancy, but the technique has great potential in the investigation of many equine diseases, especially diseases of the foot. Conventional imaging modalities, including radiography, diagnostic ultrasonogra...
